The Pacific Railway Act specified that a multi-line telegraph would be built alongside the Railroad, making telegraph communication much faster.

The Airbrake
The Airbrake allows one engineer to brake an entire train safely. Previously, brakemen had to brake each car individually, causing derailments and fatalities.
